On Sunday, Darrell participated in the Engadin ski marathon. 42 km starting at St. Moritz. We spent Christmas in the Engadin valley and blogged about it then, but the valley is basically a cross country skiers' paradise. The marathon is huge, I've read 12,000 people do the race but think that includes the half marathon as well. Darrell, caught in action here near the end, had a great finishing time (2:15:19.2), was the fastest person from Fehraltorf, and was 102nd out of 1186 in his race category. All this despite having to pass lots of people because of his placement in his starting wave (which slowed him down considerably). We don't know how many he passed in total, but from the 10.3 km point to the end, he passed 486 people (go Darrell!).
My pictures don't do the race justice as far as beauty and magnitude of it, but there are some great aerial photos from a past race on this site (scroll through the ones at the top of the page) http://www.originaltravel.co.uk/europe/switzerland/engadin-ski-marathon/
