Designer Sledges

Last weekend we had company from the US (Stephanie pictured above) and Ruth decided to go sledding (called sledging here). We started in a town called Preda and ended in Bergün - which seems to be a sledding capitol with large sled statues and ski lifts that routinely have two sleds hanging on the back of each chair. According to a recent article, sledding is undergoing a boom in popularity lately...

"Sledging appears to be more popular than ever in Switzerland. It was reported in the media that that retailers had sold three times as many sledges in the run-up to last Christmas than they did in the previous one.

Sledge makers had to work hard to fill Christmas orders, with sales prompted by early snow fall last November.

The most popular sledge still seems to be the Davos, a traditional wooden sledge, named after the Swiss resort where the first official sledge race was held in 1883."

What we really liked though were the designer sleds. Note the black and white hide sled above (third from right) with a matching purse slung over the top of the sled. Or, for that special someone, you can have also have their name on the sled, like the one below for Christian John Mark, complete with the Harley Davidson logo. If you are interested in cost, the price tag on the second from the left (above picture) is only 770 Swiss Francs (about 800 USD)...
