Ruth and I had a bit of a culture shock in Marseille on the French Mediterranean coast. ‘Everything’ was for sale - everywhere, all the time. Half bazaar and half posh shopping street, Marseille was the complete opposite of the small, tidy, orderly Swiss towns we have become accustomed to. We liked what Marseille showed us though. Ruth ran the Marseille Marathon on Sunday morning. While she was running, Fiona and I criss-crossed the city cheering her on and taking advantage of the car-free streets closed for the marathon.
