I had the great idea to see a new country on the first day of the new year, Darrell, being the wonderful husband that he is, obliged. We took a combination of trains and buses to Liechtenstein, about 2.5 hours away. The first village we came to (Balzers) had this castle perched predominately on the hill. The Gutenberg castle was built in the 11th century and owned by a series of people until the State purchased it and starting using it in 2000. http://www.liechtenstein.li/en/fl-staat-gemeinden-balzers

We had a different destination in mind though, and so rode the bus up up up a mountain to this little cross country ski area. We were too late to enjoy the sun shining right into the valley, but were above the clouds that overcast our Fehraltorf sky and we were skiing - what else could you ask for?
