It's A Small World

Back in November, Darrell met a couple of the train. He found out they lived in the Engadine Valley, and I am sure his eyes lit up. The Engadine is a valley in the southeastern Romansch speaking portion of Switzerland. It is 100 km long and surrounded by the Alps... Oh, and did I mention that there are up to 212 km of groomed cross country ski trails there and a ski marathon early in the year? Darrell asked if they knew of a good place to stay in the valley, and they replied that they happened to own a pension there in La Punt-Chamues, a village with a 2009 population of 719 people (there are 7.8 million people in Switzerland).

Darrell knew that an uncle of a US friend lived somewhere in the Engadine Valley, so he e-mailed to find out exactly where the uncle lived, hoping we could get together while we were there... As you've probably guessed by now, we found out that the uncle lives in La Punt-Chamues. We stayed at the pension for two nights starting on Christmas day and (that night) walked a short distance to the uncle's flat to have dinner with him and his family. Tried and true, it really is a small world - we can now say we know almost 1% of the La Punt-Chamues residents!
